Astrology Blog:

What is astrology?

The question this post addresses is a simple but profound one: what is astrology? The answer is multi-faceted, but let’s take things from the basics first. Astrology is the science of the relationship between the relative positions of heavenly bodies and events here on earth. Star sign traits are generated by these relationships.

The word itself is a combination of the Greek for star (astron) and word (logos).  If we translate this literally then astrology is the language of the stars.  It is a language of star signs that has developed and been practiced for thousands of years throughout myriad cultures.  In fact, its first recorded beginnings come from the third millennium BC.  Continue reading »

Sagittarius rising

Those with sagittarius traits will either have the star sign sagittarius, or ascendant, or their moon in sagittarius. They are freedom loving, and have an expansive viewpoint as this is the sign of philosophy. It is also the sign of higher learning, and these natives have a love of gaining new knowledge and experiences. Continue reading »

Astrological compatibility part 2

Star sign traits presents part two:

As alluded to in part one of this article, everyone has all of the planets in their horoscope. So, the Aries personality has the Sun in Aries, but he/she will also have the moon in one of the 12 zodiac signs, Mercury in one of the 12 signs and so forth. So whilst most astrological compatibility readings focus only on the star sign of the couple, we now know that the position of the other planets in their charts will also either add or detract from their chemistry.

The Moon sign of an individual differs from the SUn sign in that the personality will enjoy the same things as someone with that sign as their sun sign, but for different reasons and with a different style. For example, someone whose star sign traits Continue reading »

Astrological compatibility part 1

Astrology is a multi-faceted discipline — or science depending on your viewpoint — and its different features hold an interest for different types of people. For example, some individuals are drawn to what is termed “mundane” astrology, which is the study of events and affairs in the world at large, rather than a focus on an individual’s birth chart. This article, however, centers on what is arguably the most popular area of astrology: star sign compatibility.

Astrologers know that the issue of compatibility between two people can be analysed and determined in advance, simply by knowing and comparing their birth charts. But this is a fairly involved process, and what happens if these charts are not available?

The answer lies in a simple comparison of the individual’s star signs. Everyone knows their star sign and this is a quick and easy way to judge compatibility between two people. Someone with Libra traits may not be compatible with the Cancer personality. More specifically, zodiac signs that are airy or fiery are broadly compatible:

The fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Whilst the air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.

Zodiac signs that are earthy or watery are compatible with each other. The earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

Two people whose signs are both in the same group will understand each other’s thought process and attitude to life. They will find communicating with each other to be a more inutitive process. However, we can go further than this and include a comparison of the individual’s Moon and Ascendant signs. If a couple’s star signs are different but one has their moon in the same sign as the other’s sun, then that adds a layer of compatibility to their interactions. In part 2 we will see how this combination works to the couple’s advantage

The ruler of Capricorn

Here are some facts about Saturn that we may take into account when considering its influence and symbolism with the astrological chart:

Saturn takes around 30 years to orbit the sun, as it is the 6th planet from the Sun, and is second only to Jupiter in terms of size. Its mass is 95 times that of the Earth. The astronomical symbol for Saturn symbolizes the sickle of the Roman god Saturn who equates to the Greek god Cronus. Cronus was father of Zeus and was eventually dethroned by him. In accord with this, Saturn is often associated with paternal figures.

The rings of Saturn are made up of ice particles and a smaller admixture of rubble and dust. So far we’ve identified 62 moons orbiting the planet – the largest of which is the aptly named Titan. Those individuals with primarily Capricorn traits are likely to have the planet Saturn emphasized in their birth chart, as Saturn rules the Capricorn personality.

Mercury part 2

To conclude the 2 part blog post, we can identify some general characteristics of one of the most important planets in astrology:- Mercury is the smallest and innermost planet , orbiting the Sun once every 87.969 Earth days. Mercury is said to signify Gemini by day, and Virgo by night. Its metal is quicksilver, and it rules over educational faculties, shops and markets. Its day of the week is Wednesday.

Occasionally Mercury actually Continue reading »

Zodiac definitions

Many people recognize that the common astrology depicted in the papers etc. is meaningless as it applies only to one’s star sign.  Further, it is ignorant of the transits every individual is experiencing at any point in time.  Once this is understood, a person with an interest in astrology is likely to get their own chart drawn up so they can get a detailed and relevant analysis.  Continue reading »
